After leaving Memphis, we drove a short 211 miles to Nashville, or “NashVegas,” as some may prefer.
Although there’s a pretty lively music scene in Nashville, we had to skip. After 6 days on the road, we were pretty beat. No regrets, I’ll just have to return to Nashville again another day 😉 Here’s what we did:
Shop. Hatch Print Shop in Downtown is an old print press. It’s a fun place to browse. They sell what I believe is overstock from actual orders. I bought a Kentucky Fair poster for $3. Sung bought this shirt for $15.

Eat. Also in downtown is Jack’s BBQ. This place was pretty solid. It was fast and easy (get in line, point to things cafeteria style). Brisket, mac & cheese, slaw, side of pickles, cornbread, and every kind of sauce! Meat was really smoky and tender, mmmm… and you can’t beat the convenience of its location either.
Eat. I was really looking forward to eating at Monell’s, which is just a fantastic local establishment. They’re located in Germantown, north of downtown. For $11.85 per person, you get an all-you-can-eat (A.Y.C.E.) family style dining experience! You can call (615) 248-4747 to see what’s on the menu that day. They’ve always got skillet fried chicken on the menu and that itself was a treat! Much better than Gus’ Famous Fried Chicken. In any case, literally EVERYTHING was fantastic! Very homestyle. The slaw and cucumber dish were perfect and refreshing. The mac & cheese was very flavorful (not too bland like most). The pot roast was similar to what my mom makes. Even the vegetable lasagna, which I had low hopes for, was delicious! Banana pudding was the perfect family style dessert. Highly recommended.
I also bought a pair of earrings for $7, which were hanging near the cash register. I wear them all the time – what a good buy.
