I love Nordstrom and have really benefited from their generous price matching policy. If you’d like to learn more about how to utilize this great service, please continue reading…
Why It Matters. Nordstrom price matches and that’s a big deal because:
- Nordstrom has FREE shipping and FREE returns on ALL orders (no minimum)
- You can return or exchange items you bought online or in-store
- Nordstrom is completely reputable and trustworthy; very few sellers can match Nordstrom’s caliber of service and assurance of authenticity
How do I find a cheaper seller? Before I buy anything from Nordstrom, I usually conduct a quick Google Shopping search to make sure Nordstrom has the lowest price among reputable sellers. Just type the product’s name in Google Shopping and sort by “Price: low to high.”
What about competitors with lower prices after coupon codes? Nordstrom will also price match when a competitor’s price is lower after applying a coupon code. For example, let’s say Store A was selling a pair of $200 heels, but offered a 50% off coupon code. Then, let’s say Nordstrom.com has that same pair for only $140. The question is, will Nordstrom give you 50% off its competitor’s price ($200) or 50% off its own price ($140)? Nordstrom will honor the price you would have paid their competitor – this means, you’d get a price match for 50% off $200.
Update: A sales rep once told before that the coupon code must be visible on the website you are purchasing from. This rule is applied inconsistently, so be sure to ask regardless!
Which sellers will Nordstrom match and which won’t they? I’ve had tremendous luck with Nordstrom matching all kinds of sellers. I got Hunter’s for only $60 by asking Nordstrom to price matching some British seller. I had never heard of the British seller before so I was a little wary to order from them, plus the British seller charged a lot for international shipping, plus my bank would have charged me a foreign transaction fee. It was the perfect situation where price matching would give me peace of mind and save me money.
As a quick note, if you’re trying to price match Uggs, Nordstrom is a little pickier regarding the reputation of lower-priced sellers. They will only match authorized uggs online retailers; hence, the seller MUST be on this list. There are too many fake Uggs sellers out there and Nordstrom knows it, so Nordstrom is more particular when it comes to price matching Uggs.
Nordstrom will not match websites like Hautelook and Gilt, which are membership only. Nordstrom will not price match ebay or any other auction sites.
What if the cheaper seller is out of stock in my size or color? According to Nordstrom’s official price matching policy, the competitor must carry in-stock the same size and color as the product you’re ordering. I haven’t found this to be the case in my personal experience. I’ve been told that the cheaper seller must carry the same style and the same color, but that it was not necessary that the seller have my size in stock. I’m not sure if that’s the old policy and they’ve since changed it, or if my experience is just the difference between policy and practice. In any case, doesn’t hurt to ask!
Are there any exclusions? Yes, according to Nordstrom’s official price matching policy, designer goods and cosmetics are not included in this policy. When they say “designer goods,” they mean the really high end designers like YSL and D&G, etc., which are listed HERE. This, however, may not be a hard rule, since Tiffany of Iamstyle-ish got a pair of Christian Dior pumps price matched and those clearly fall under the “designer goods” category. Once again, doesn’t hurt to ask a Nordstrom.com Customer Service Rep! I’ve also been able to get Nordstrom.com to price match Stila cosmetics, so they may price-match your cosmetics purchase, as well.
How do I ask Nordstrom’s for the Price Match. The easiest and most effective way to price match is to use “Live Help” on their website. Live Help connects you with a real person via a chat box. The Live Help button is on the bottom of their website:
Once connected, just provide the representative the URL links to the product you want to buy on Nordstrom’s website and the lower-priced competitor’s website. Kindly ask for a price match and have your payment method ready to go.
Warning against double dipping. If you read on a forum that a few posters have gotten Nordstrom to perform a price match, but your Nordstrom rep on live chat denies you, don’t be too quick to close the chat and try a second time with a different rep. They keep a history of your IP address and will know you’ve just spoken to another one of their reps.
I hope that the above information was helpful. Thanks for reading.
